Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
1. Where can you play ringette abroad?
A: There are ringette leagues and teams in Canada, Czech Republic, Finland and Sweden. You can find contact information for these countries here.
2. When you start planning your trip abroad, when do you need to start making arrangements for your trip?
A: Ringette season usually lasts from around August to May. Therefore, it is important to contact the national ringette association or team you want to play for well in advance (April-May time when the current season finishes). If you require a visa to move to a different country you should start making arrangements at least one year prior to your trip.
There are few things you need to figure out. What are you going to do abroad besides ringette? Can you get a work permit or go to university? Maybe be an au pair? What city do you want to live in? What team would you like to play for? What league do you want to play in?
3. What are the most important things to do at first? What do you especially have to take notice of when you are going abroad for a long time?
A: Try to find people from your home country who have played in the country you want to go to. See information on your home country's Citizenship and Immigration Service what do you need to remember when you move out of the country. Look for places where you could stay and if they know of any jobs that are going. Local ringette contacts are the best people to ask this. Plan your finances. Some countries require a statement from your bank to showcase you have the means to survive for a month or two while you settle in your new ringette country.
4. How do you find a team?
A: Answer these questions. How old are you? What level are you looking to play at? Where in that country would you be interested in going? For example, Canada has different provinces where ringette is played and therefore lots of opportunities to play!
