The International Ringette Federation (IRF) Announces New Structure.
We are delighted to announce that IRF is starting a new chapter.
Following the 2022 World Ringette Championships in Espoo, Finland, the International Ringette Federation has made the decision to alter its structure and focus.
The current volunteers that are acting board members, will see their terms end with a new policy board of governance coming into play.
The IRF is changing :
To align with the highest standards of governance required in 2022 and beyond
To relate to the change in culture of sport, globally
To add transparency and accountability to the organization
To increase efficiency and collaboration, separation of governance and operational committees
To allow a further reach to increase global participation
To move forward and highlight our current values of: accountability, collaboration, excellence and inclusion
The IRF plans to focus on the development of the sport of ringette.
There is a plan for growth, to bring more younger players into the game, and provide them with more opportunities for high level competition. The IRF has laid this out in our vision, that ‘the sport of ringette is played globally’, and mission statement: ‘Inspiring a global ringette community through a world class event, sharing and promoting our passion, supporting existing ringette nations and developing ringette communities.’
We will achieve this by focusing on 3 distinct pillars:
World Ringette Championships - inspiring a global ringette community through a world class event
Communications - sharing and promoting our passion
Sport Development - supporting existing ringette nations and developing ringette communities
The IRF is committed to hosting an International event in 2023 to maintain the current competition cycle. With the 60th anniversary of ringette being in 2023, the event will return to Canada and will be a ‘Celebration of our sport’. Given the challenges faced as a community over the past few years, and to continue to align with our current strategic plan, the IRF has made the decision to feature the following at the 2023 International Competition Event:
World Junior Championship (existing)
President’s Pool World Championship (existing)
U18 International Development Event (New)
The IRF has decided not to feature the Sam Jacks pool at the 2023 event. Given the current disparity and the financial requirements on these nations to support this level of programing, the IRF has paused the Sam Jacks Pool and will see this return to the World Championship slate in 2025. The IRF has designated Canada as the host nation for the 2023 International Competition event. This will be slated to take place in week 44 of 2023.
