Sweden Wins President's Pool Gold Medal - Burnaby 2019

Sweden defeated USA 5 – 3 to win gold in the President’s Pool on Sunday at the 2019 World Ringette Championships at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre in Burnaby. USA was awarded silver.

“The game was a tight, good game,” said Sweden Captain Anna Norrbom. “I felt we had it under control, but we made a few mistakes. Then, we started to play smarter and beat them [USA] in the end. It’s been an awesome week.”

The games most valuable player awards (MVP) went to Sweden’s Meri Ruuska (number 22) and USA’s Julia Fair (42).

For the President’s Pool, tournament MVPs awards for each team went to:

  • Sweden – Emilia Riikola (8)

  • USA – Shaelyn Corasiniti (15)

  • Czech Republic – Petra Herzigová (6)

The overall tournament MVP award for the Presidents Pool went to Sweden’s Sarah Esmail (3).

The 2019 World Ringette Championships featured 179 athletes, 56 coaches and team officials and seven female teams from five countries: Canada, USA, Finland, Sweden and the Czech Republic.

  • Finland Senior – Gold

  • Canada Senior – Silver

President’s Pool

  • Sweden – Gold

  • USA – Silver

  • Czech Republic – Bronze

Junior Pool

  • Canada – Gold
